Fall into Fiction | Suspended Installation

This oversized floral and paper chain installation was created for my town's "Fall into Fiction" book community event. I was given creative freedom within the themes of fiction, imagination, and the fall season. Drawing inspiration from Alice in Wonderland, I envisioned an environment filled with oversized flowers reminiscent of the fantastical landscapes Alice encounters throughout her journey.

I constructed the flowers using large sheets of crepe paper, Styrofoam spheres, and what felt like an endless supply of hot glue before arranging and suspending them from the ceiling with chicken wire.

For the paper chains, I sourced old books from Savers and combined cut pages with rich autumn colors and metallic paper accents. I wanted to create a sense of abundance throughout the installation, so I grouped the chains loosely and allowed them to drape at varying heights, bringing the installation closer to the guests as they walked underneath.

The combination of oversized florals, repurposed literature, and suspended elements was intended to create an immersive environment that brought the imagination and atmosphere of fiction into the physical space.
